The Princeton Club of Hong Kong and Stanford Club of Hong Kong, invite you to an informal dinner with David Camarillo, Princeton '01, Stanford *08 on Tuesday, 3 June @ 7pm.

David is visiting Hong Kong for a conference, but would like to invite all who are interested to a dinner to share his research on brain trauma - especially in regards to children and the protection (or not) they get from traditional helmets.  This talk will interest any parent, cyclist or individual in sports-related fields.

If you would like to join us, please RSVP by Monday 26 May to the following individuals

Princeton alumni:

Jennifer Yeh Wannenmacher '01

Cost will be $350/person.  Pay at door.  Location will be in Central, but TBC.

David Camarillo's Biography
David Camarillo is an Assistant Professor of Bioengineering at Stanford University. Dr. Camarillo holds a B.S.E from Princeton University in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, a Ph.D. from Stanford University in Mechanical Engineering, and worked in the medical device industry before joining the faculty. He is an expert in instrument design and biomechanics whose research interests include mild traumatic brain injury, infertility, and robotics for minimally invasive surgery. He directs a National Institute of Health (NIH) funded laboratory working to solve these problems.

Abstract: What David is Currently Working On
Traumatic brain injury ranges from a deadly blow to a “mild” concussion.  Helmets have been in use in military, sports, and other high risk activities for almost 5000 years, but how effective are they at preventing brain trauma?  Our research is showing that classical helmets have fundamental limitations and that entirely new approaches are needed to protecting the brain.  I will discuss what happens to the head and brain during trauma, why helmets aren’t effective, and what hope there is for better protection of our children.
